Response to How to Become a Writer by: Lorrie Moore

This was a very interesting piece of work, in fact i have never read anything like it before in my life. It was peculiar in the way of how it was written, so random and no real sense of order or plot. The ideas jumped from one to the other and every paragraph was different from the other. I liked this piece though because of the randomness and loss of plot. It kept me on my heels in a way not because it was not possible to predict what she was going to say or do next. It was intriguing because she told you what you should do throughout the story to become a writer. Also i enjoy the writing being in second person. This was because when you read pieces it is usually from the first or third person. The second was much different and kind of hard to follow because so many different things pop up. It kind of was like we were the main character in the story. This gave us a better perspective on everything and how you kind of could choose what you wanted to do by her saying Perhaps various times throughout the piece. It was very descriptive though and clever on how she went on and found things from her regular life to influence her stories. But none of her pieces made sense to her classmates meaning that she had already extended her imagination before they had. It is kind of like she was writing pieces before her time, she was ahead of the times. What i think Lorrie Moore is saying in the path to become a writer is that it is a very long road. You need to find yourself and how you want to write. This may take some time and you may change your major several times until you find out what you want to do. But once you find what you want top do stick with it and carry it out to the fullest. I believe this may have been the path that Lorrie Moore went through to become such an accomplished writer.
