Def Jam Poem

So your 4 and three quarters
Still a little plump around the edges, big smile
You haven’t been around for too long
And with no siblings there is no one to amuse you on long days
But then you meet
Frank
Your Imaginary Friend
Before long you and Frank are everywhere together
You talk to him one on one in your house
At the park
On the jungle gym
You play hide and seek with him and he always wins
When someone asks you something you must confer with him first
He has the best opinions’
Then you start to become a little more destructive sometimes you know
You’re a little kid, just chilling
Throwing a ball to Frank
You know, and then you shatter a vase
So you’re spazzing
Hiding in a closet hoping not to be found
Then mom finds the vase
It was not me mom!
It was
Frank
My Imaginary Friend
Frank knows all of your deepest darkest secrets
Like how to sneak cookies before dinner
Or how to stay up past your bedtime
Sometimes you even tell him about the cute preschool girls you’re crushing on
Frank is a great listener

But you can trust him with anything because he is
Frank
You’re imaginary Friend
Suddenly you’re six and in Kindergarten
Playing with blocks and toys
You and Frank are distant now
So many new friends you have met
And they will actually throw the ball back during catch
Soon enough you have forgotten about
Frank
Your Imaginary Friend

Irish Curse Poem final work

You are a jerk

So let the world take your turf

You are inconsiderate

Therefore you will be illiterate

You have been cheating

Your turn for a beating

Blue eyes?

Make them grey like the stormy sky

You are wealthy

Your family is now unhealthy

May your happiness

Turn into true madness

Let fear

Make you turn to beer

You shall die

In due time

United

The world came crashing down before my eyes

The only home I have ever known

annihilated

The culture that had flourished so vibrantly under the blistering rays of the sun
Was shattered under the black sky that engulfed it

The civilization seemed like a new underworld, blazing with anger

Now the black sky travels onward

The aftermath stands in our way, an obstruction we are anxious to over come

But,
as people are overwhelmed with these thoughts and soon they take over our lives as we spend all our days tormenting
ourselves, wondering if there was something we could have done.
Now,
the rejuvenation begins and we stand together

as neighbors, friends, family and associates

as one community
United

At the Vietnam Memorial
By George Bilgere

The last time I saw Paul Castle
it was printed in gold on the wall
above the showers in the boys’
locker room, next to the school
record for the mile. I don’t recall
his time, but the year was 1968
and I can look across the infield
of memory to see him on the track,
legs flashing, body bending slightly
beyond the pack of runners at his back.
He couldn’t spare a word for me,
two years younger, junior varsity,
and hardly worth the waste of breath.
He owned the hallways, a cool blonde
at his side, and aimed his interests
further down the line than we could guess.
Now, reading the name again,
I see us standing in the showers,
naked kids beneath his larger,
comprehensive force—the ones who trail
obscurely, in the wake of the swift,
like my shadow on this gleaming wall.
I liked this poem just because it makes you think about your life after high school. How one day you will leave all the poeple you now know and create your own life, mabye never even talking to people your age ever again. You never know what happens to these people or what they become until their name is in the news or they die. This was interesting to me because it seemed that although himself and Paul Castle did not know each other very well, he looked up to him. Also he rmembered right away what he was like in high school, how he acted. Now he is dead and was killed in the vietnam war. For myself, i wonder how it will be when high school ends and i go to college and when i am on my own in life, if i will even be talking to all the people i am friends with now. How will they change and act. What careers did they choose? Will ex-girlfriends still not like their boyfriends, girls still jelous of others? Will the jock become a pro athlete or work at the grocery store? This poem i think makes everyone look to the future and wonder, what will our high school reunions be like.

Valentines Day

It was an ice cold day with temperatures well underneath zero in all parts of majestical city of New York. A light fluffy snow began to drop from the sky and landed almost as it placed there by a mother’s hand. Despite the falling temperatures hearts were still ablaze bursting of love and stomachs jam-packed with chocolate. The bustling city sang the words of love in numerous languages. Rose pedals all over the floors and beds for couples who like to do the dirty deed in the dark. Some wine tasting and a hearty dinner for the older people of the City spending their day reliving former Valentine days with their Amor. Three years ago this is how life was precisely for Frank. It was just what the doctor ordered and full of Amor. It was the day he met his Amor in the 3rd isle of the supermarket. The fishy fragrance crammed the air as both Frank and Frankie were looking for good poultry. When he and her poultry touched for the first time the link was made. Life had not always been this spectacular for Frank. Back in the day as a student Frank was a nerd who did not have the greatest adolescence life ever; in fact it was filled with books and bullies. Frank had hair parted to the right, thick black rimmed glasses and wore overalls which helped him fulfill the Steve Urkel look; he was his hero after all. His scrawny structure and high pitched voice made him an easy target for his tormentors, which were basically the jocks of the school. Even worse his brother Freddy was a superstar on the lacrosse and football teams always traveling with the teams. In addition to his sports Freddy got all the “sizzling babes” as he called them. Freddy and Frank never got along all too well. The prom was the day everything changed for Frank and Freddy’s relationship. Although Frank was green-eyed and upset with Freddy for being so good, Frank loved Freddy because he was his brother. But prom made him hate Freddy. Freddy, already had four prom dates prepared all in the house waiting for him. Frank, had a friend he had met in math class who he was very close too. She was very nice to Frank and her name was Victoria. When Frank asked her to the prom she could not say yes fast enough. But she had ulterior motives. Victoria loved Freddy and when she came to Frank’s home for prom, looking outrageously stunning, Freddy immediately made his move. Frank found them in the closet, which was overflowing with various board games and food, together where Freddy’s smooth jet black hair was ruffled, his flawlessly ironed tie was undone and his neck had various lipstick marks. Victoria’s hair which was up in a symmetrical bun was now down laying at her side and was all over the place, her scarlet lipstick was now only found on Freddy’s neck and her eyes looked like she had seen a ghost when Frank opened the door. She then shut the door, and Frank ran up to his room and cried. But three years after everything changed and Frank finally felt sure about himself. It was Valentines Day and Frank had met Frankie in the Poultry isle. They went out to dinner after eating and retired back to Frank’s place where she laid comfortably on his chest and shortly fell asleep from listing to the synchronized sound of Frank’s heartbeat. Her joyful personality, sparkling blue eyes and silky blonde hair is what drew him to her. Frank never had felt so merry in his life and knew from that moment on he was in love with Frankie. But this Valentines Day was unlike any other. At least for Frank. Today was Frank’s worst day hitherto. In fact it was so bad he decided to liquefy all of the chocolate he had bought for Frankie, his one love. He wished that he could do that to his own heart. Frankie, who Frank was planning to propose to that day, left him the day before last for another man. It was Frank’s brother, Freddy. Frank had never been so betrayed. He never thought in his lifetime that he would be cheated on again by another woman. He was everlastingly destroyed. How could she love him? She does not know how much of a womanizer he is? He will break her heart! His rage and a spur of a moment thought made him do the unthinkable. He decided to go home that evening and go to his mama who always told him he was special. She attentively listened to his rants but without much interest, because herself and her husband had their own Valentines Day plan and were being severely interrupted. Frank’s father entered the room halfway though his displeasing story and called him a little twit and a cry baby and he should pick himself and get back out there. His father was a rough man with a jagged personality and often talked before he thought. Also he always dreamed that Frank would be like his brother Freddy, Frank never lived up those expectations of his father. This is why he liked Freddy better, Freddy always lifted and got all the girls and was a better athlete. Frank got good grades and got hung to flagpoles by his tidy wideys and taped to the Football team’s field goal posts. Frank’s mother then decided that if Frank pleased he could spend the night there because it was below zero and the visibility was dramatically awful on the roads. Frank’s father though was very upset with this offer because he had a very romantic evening planned with his wife, there were rose pedals leading up the stairs. When Frank went to bed his mother and father went to bed, to play, from what Frank was told candy land. It had been a while since he had been in the house and he started to hear cheers from their bedroom so he ventured up the stairs and tripped over a pot filled with soil which made a loud crash on the floor. His father then came out of his room with a bat with full intention of ridding his house of this intruder. Since it was dark he took a swing and landed the hit right into the abdomen of his son. His son flew back and his father took another shot hitting him in the knee and he rolled down the stairs, as he rolled he went through the staircase railing and landed with a thump onto the coffee table breaking it. Frank, in much pain and multiple contusions from his fathers bat, moaned and attempted to get up but then was hit with a flying object, and another one, and another one. Frank then stumbled, both knees in pain and his legs scarred and profusely bleeding from the broken coffee tables glass fell out the door. In fear of being more severely injured Frank’s adrenaline gave him enough energy to sprint like a jack rabbit out into the street. The father, believing the intruder was gone went back to his room to play candy land. His son ran out into the street to fast, did not look both ways and then was smacked by a garbage truck.
